Media storage and access

Hi, I have a lot of photos on my WordPress site that I use often but when I try to add media to a new post or page WordPress takes me to the media folder and I need to scroll though 100’s of pictures to find the one I need. The filter offered only offers a date option to narrow down the search. However when I am in the media library I am able to move the pictures into different folders which is great so why won’t the filter allow me to select one of these folders instead of just a date the picture was loaded?

If you are talking about a site running on the wordpress.com platform, you can edit media details and you can search your media.
If you give your photos a meaningfull name, it’s much easier to find it in your library.

Hi thanks fore your advice, but it doesn’t really fix my problem. I am not sure if we are talking about the same thing, when I followed the links you provided it did not look anything like what my admin area looks like. I find this all very confusing and WordPress doesn’t seem to have a Help Desk just forums.

Thanks anyway for trying to help.

  • Hi there! I think I see where the disconnect might be. Are you working on the site at http://www.tcmac.com.au? If so, while that site is a WordPress site, it is a custom “self-hosted” WordPress site. In short, what this means it isn’t hosted on our servers. And the support forums you have arrived at are primarily for sites hosted on our servers. But wait, there’s more…

What I need to do is direct you to a place where there are other WordPress site owners just like yourself asking and answering questions about their custom self-hosted WordPress sites, including working within the Media Library.

The main area where this occurs on the Internet is here: https://wordpress.org/support/forums

That will start you at the main page where you can select a forum, look within it for similar questions, and find answers that have already been given to see if they fit your needs. If you find none, you can then pose your question there and get feedback from the community.

Give that a try next. Good luck, and we hope you get the answers you need to continue on your WordPress adventure. :)
