Media transfer

  When I transferred my site to WordPress.org from WordPress.com most of my media files were left behind. How can I move them?

  Hi –

  Everything should be referenced in the import file. You can try running the export again from the WordPress.com site and then import again on the new site.

  Please confirm which site you ran the export from too. Then I can take a closer look.

  I’ve already done that twice but I’ll do it once more. I ran the export to poutineandprada.com. It’s self hosted with Alpha Dog.

  Are any media files importing, at all, or is it hit and miss?

  Just to get you a step further, I’ll add if it’s hit and miss, that tells you it’s most likely something timing out, rather than there being some issue with the export file.

  If all are being blocked, it’s most likely a security setting at the host. Either way you best bet is to get in touch with them and let them know what’s happening.

  As long as the files all still exist on our side (be sure to avoid deleting them until everything is moved properly and confirmed), and as long as the links in the import file are correct, the import *should* work. But it may take some help from your host to ensure the server is allowing the import to finish properly.
