Media Uploading Not Working
-
I know other people are having this problem also, but I will describe exactly what happens.
Firstly, I am hosting my wordpress blog myself, under my own domain name. It is located at http://www.endeavormedia.net/portfolios/nh/
Secondly, I am using Safari version 3.1 for Windows, and Flash version 9.0.124.0.
So, to start, I clicked on the “Add an image” icon, then clicked “choose files to upload” from computer. I then chose the file I wanted to upload, clicked on “open”. Crunching. . . then … BAM!! HTTP error. Have any idea why? Help is appreciated, thanks!
Things I tried:
I checked all of the permissions to the “uploads” folder, allowing it to be write able from outside sources. -
Since you are self-hosted and using the software downloaded from wordpress.org, you need to direct your question to http://wordpress.org/support/ . WordPress.com uses a multi-user version of the software which is different than what you are using and few, if any, here know anything about it.

WordPress.com or WordPress.org? The difference. -
This is very similar to the problem I was having. Are you using the Flash uploader? That’s the default one, so I’m guessing you are. That’s the one that gave me trouble, too. But now there’s an alternative. Look for the link in the pop-up window that says “Try the Browser uploader instead.” You may have more luck. I was getting the HTTP error messages, too. But the browser uploader option solved my problem, thankfully.

Good try though. It could even be that it will NOT show up for self-hosted blogs. It depends on whether they get the flash uploader bugs worked out or not. If they get them exterminated, it may not even be necessary.

The “Try the browser uploader” link is WordPress.com only at the moment. I’ll release that feature as a plugin to go with 2.5.1 if there’s demand – but so far we’ve heard very few reports of issues on self hosted blogs. Which is why it caught us by surprise.
