Media will not upload from my computer

    Hello, I have been an avid WordPress user for years now (since 2011) and have never experienced any problems with my media library when it comes to uploading images/files or inserting them into posts/pages.

    Unfortunately, this weekend I have been unable to upload any media to my library at all – not jpegs or pdf files – when working on my laptop. It says it is uploading, the bar fills up and shows 100% but nothing actually happens and the media never appears on the upload page. Then, when I revert to the library page, there is no addition.

    I have, however, been able to complete uploads using my android phone (I just login to the wordpress website via chrome on my phone). What is going on – what can I do to be able to use my laptop as I always have done?

    Thank you for any advice :) I have cleared my browser history (cache) and am not sure what else to do… I do not use plugins etc that are additional to the standard wordpress site. I am lost!

    I am having the same exact problem, and it just began about a week ago. My phone also works for uploading media, just not my laptop. I hope someone can figure out what is going on!

    Aw it is sort of comforting to know that I am not alone, but am really hoping a lovely wordpress person can resolve it for us so that next time I try to upload on my laptop it is as straightforward and simple as I am normally used to!

    Feels so strange not being able to just use the media library without a second thought… I am definitely a laptop-focused person, using my phone to do my web/blog work was weird!

    Nothing seems to be updating now :( Whenever I try to update a page it just get hungs up.

    I am so upset! Don’t know how to get help other than through here? Will someone from WordPress be looking into this as well?

    @georginabutler, I am reviewing past help requests tagged “media” and wanted to follow up with you about the upload problems you mentioned. I tested uploading media into my own blog just now by starting at https://wordpress.com/post/ and selecting my blog and clicking the Add Media button then dragging images into the window that pops up. Is that also what you were doing before when media uploads weren’t working for you? I used Chrome 54.0.2840.71 on Mac OS X 10.11.6 for my test, and uploads are working for me.

    If you are still having any trouble at all with uploads, could you let me know the link you are using when you try to update and confirm which browser version you are currently using?

    Hi, my media still will not upload from my laptop, only with my phone.

    I am just on the wordpress site in the admin bit. I used to just click on Media, add new and then upload them with either the browser upload or the multi-file upload.

    I have just tried the dragging and that makes no difference.

    I am using Chrome 54.

    It is very strange. It just gets hung up and does not do anything…

    Any solutions will be much appreciated :)

    I tested with Chrome 54.0.2840.59 m on Windows 10 with the following steps, and uploading an image worked in my test:

    1. Go to WP Admin
    1. Click Media in the left menu
    1. Click the Add New button at the top
    1. Click the Select Files button
    1. Select an image and click Open

    Result: the image appeared at the bottom of the page and when I checked the Media Library it was there as well.

    Would it be possible for you to try testing from a different browser, such as Firefox or IE, on the same computer?

    Another good troubleshooting step that’s always good to try would be to clear your browser cache and cookies in Chrome.

    Sometimes, browser add-ons or extensions can interfere with things like uploading. It would be good to check those as well to see if turning any extensions off (if you have any) temporarily resolves the problem in this case.
