Member page access?

I am new to Word Press and have a questions.
Basically I am wondering if it possible to have a member section on my website where I would add users so they can access a member only page.
I am trying to develop a section page where there would be different sub-categories accessible only to certain members that I add.
How would I do this? Do I need a plugin for this?

We do not have plug-ins at wordpress.com. We run on different software than wordpress.org does. If you have a wordpress.org blog we cannot help you here. You must go to http://wordpress.org/support

If yours is a wordpress.com blog please read on. You have used the word “page” and the word “sub-categories”. Pages and posts are quite different from each other. You cannot assign categories to pages. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/11/a-post-and-a-page/
