Member/User Area

Before I commit to purchase I want to confirm that I can set up the site to have a private member only area of the site where I can display content as well as take submissions. I am not seeing anything documenting how this would be accomplished. If you could point me to some reading material on how to set that up I would appreciate it.

Thanks for getting in touch. With a free WordPress.com site you could rig this together by using site and post/page privacy settings and a contact form.
A more formal integration with membership plugins could be achieved when on the business plan.
Have you looked in to which plan you’ll want to use? Do you already have a custom domain?

I am currently looking at the business plan but want to read up on how to accomplish a member only area before committing to purchase.

A custom domain is no problem.
With membership sites you’ve got several options. Here’s a tutorial for the method staff-zinnia mentioned:
