I am considering moving our website to WordPress, but want to know if I can have individual usernames and passwords for my members for certain areas of the website. I would also like to design the new website using WordPress and when it is done then move the www record. Is this possible?

    Thank you

  • Hi @kristencbutler,

can [I] have individual usernames and passwords for my members for certain areas of the websit

With all plans here on WordPress.com, you can create “private” posts and pages that only site members can see.

If you need to allow some members to access some areas, and other members to access other areas, you’ll likely need a plugin for that. That requires a Business Plan if you’re using our hosting/maintenance/support services:
    https://wordpress.com/business

Or you can run your own copy of WordPress with another host.

I would also like to design the new website using WordPress and when it is done then move the www record. Is this possible?

Sort of. Our servers default to the domain without WWW. As long as you’re okay pointing both the domain and the WWW subdomain here, you’ll be fine; you can stage a site here. Just choose a free domain for now, and you can add your real domain when you’re ready.

I’d bet you have more questions, so feel free to send them our way. Or if you’d rather ask support directly, you’re welcome to buy a plan and open a chat. That’s refundable within 30 days of purchase.

    Cheers :)
