Members-Only Area?
-
I actually don’t need help with my own site, but I am trying to convince others to use WordPress. Iam webmaster for a small local organization. I am trying to convince the group that WordPress is a great option for their site, but they want a public area (general info, event photos, etc) AND a private area (budgets, agendas, etc). Does WordPress offer a way for members of a group to create accounts to log in to private pages on a site? They would not be editing anything. We don’t want to use a single password because it’s too easy to share, thus making it harder for our webmaster to manage who is accessing the member area. Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @vcwade.
You may want to take a look at the User Roles available:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/and also post and page visibility options:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-visibility/https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-visibility/
Using these options you should be able to set a site up with both public pages/posts and private pages and posts.
Hope that helps send you in the right direction. Have a great day!

Hi there,
For a fully-integrated membership area on a site you’d need to use a membership plugin. On WordPress.com that requires the Business Plan.
That said, not all membership plugins work great with WordPress.com – we only recommend WooCommerce Memberships at this point – but there are many membership plugins available that can be used on the open source WordPress software with a different hosting provider.
