  I am now nearly out of my wits, having spent 2 days trying to get the menu to work.
  Nishida template, http://petitpoisvideo.com/.

  I have read whatever I can find about making a custom meny, also http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/.
  I have done what is described here. I have made parent-connection.
  There is no way I can get the page-children to show up UNDER “foto”.

  The Foto-tab is now static, and the idea was to have the pages 1,2 etc show up under the tab.
  Static- or not static; I can not get it right.
  The pages 1,2 etc, place themselves in the horizontal menu whatever I try.
  I’m so tired of searching now (excuse the rant) –
  can someone please help me to get this right?

  If you want us to help you, you need to be more precise and specific. Do you want “Foto” to link to a static page, to a post category, or to nothing? Are “pages 1,2 etc” supposed to be static pages or post categories?

  Thanks so much for a quick reply.
  And- I was actually reading your linked page here just now.

  It might be some sort of language problem, as english isn’t my native one, but
  I’m mostly reading english for all my computer-work, but this is bewildering to me.

  Yes, I want the sub-links to lead to a static one-post page.
  (you click the page, then another one in the sub)

  You’re welcome, but I’m afraid your reply isn’t clear to me.
  a) Do you want the “Foto” tab to lead to something or not? Your reply seems to say yes but what I’m seeing in your menu right now seems to say no.
  b) What does “lead to a static one-post page” mean? Lead to a page you have created in Pages > Add New (then accessed in Pages > All Pages), or lead to a post you have created in Posts > Add New (then accessed in Posts > All Posts)?

  Yes.

  The Foto-tab: static
  Hoover Fototab- and pages will show underneath ( page 1, page 2 etc.)
  Click on page 1- a statick page shows.
  Click on page 2- a static page shows (etc)
  (All while main menu is available)

  I have not used post at all, just page.

  Well, then- I think I got this solved.
  Re-reading quite a number of times + try, and try again –
  I finally understood.
  Add the pages to the custom menu, THEN drag them to the right.
  So then, to me, placing the pages as children to a parent while in editor will
  not do the actual move but it’s more like a reminder to me.
  When setting up the menu, the children-pages can be a submenu AFTER FIRST
  being placed as ordernary menu-items.
  It took a long time getting there.
  Might be language, might be just me.

  Looks like you found out how to create the dropdowns to page1, page 2.

  As for the Foto tab, if you don’t want it to be clickable at all, open it (in Appearance > Menus), delete the # from the URL field, click Save Menu.
