The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It’s not lost. That is exactly how your themes is designed to operate.
https://wordpress.com/themes/independent-publisher/
https://independentpublisherdemo.wordpress.com/If the slideout is not to your liking you can change themes.
re: switching themesThemes are just “skins” on WordPress.COM hosted blogs. You can quickly and easily change themes on any WordPress.COM hosted blog to another one found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and no data will be lost or negatively affected by the change. The only time you may have to do a lot of work is if you are changing to a dramatically different theme with different features and/or if you have done any CSS editing.
Provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the blog go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes, Browse themes until you find one you like and click the “activate” or the “preview” link, or type in the name of the theme you want to use when it appears.
The theme customizer https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/ provides a preview function for exactly that purpose ie. so you can view what a theme will appear like prior to changing one.

Sorry but I do not get this. Until twenty minutes ago the list of pages always appeared to the left on my home page. Now it is gone. So I do not see how your explanation answers my question.
Did I accidentally click something which hid my pages from view. I was trying to make a change on one page. It said Blogs and I wanted to change that to Blog. After saving the change, the whole list disappeared and now I cannot find my other pages.
Alternatively, as my site stand now how does a visitor find my other pages?

You must have changed themes.
See here to confirm:
https://wordpress.com/themes/independent-publisher/
https://independentpublisherdemo.wordpress.com/ -
When you click the slideout menu link in the Independent Publisher theme the links to your pages appear.
If you prefer a conventional style theme then you could switch to using Twenty Sixteen. https://wordpress.com/themes/twentysixteen/

I appreciate your patience and promptness. In the past, I had a menu list showing on the left side. I vaguely remember creating that using a widget. I may be wrong. In fact the way it is now may be neater but I am concerned lest visitor somehow don’t realize they need to click on menu then click on page. Do you have an opinion on this.
I am still unclear as to how I can change back but I will keep playing with it.
The question remains – how could I have done this accidentally?

I figured it out finally. All I had to do was go to customize under Themes and then using widget I recreated my sidebar.
I appreciate your help. I looked at your page by the way. Are you from new England by any chance? Remind me of some friends with whom I used to hang out there. -
Hooray! you figured this out. I’m Canadian and I live in the Gulf Islands where many expatriated Brits also choose to live. :)
