Menu across the top suddenly changed to drop down menu – how do I change it back

I’m creating a blog (not using premium) and for a while the menu sat nicely across the top and I could click on each title and go to that page but now suddenly it’s all hidden in a drop down button which I don’t like. I haven’t added any more, it just suddenly happened. How can I change it back to headings across the top style menu? Many thanks in advance.

I change was made about 5 weeks ago to try to make the menus work better for small and mid-size devices like tablets, and I bet that caused the change you’re seeing. I will ask about it to see what I can find out.

In the mean time, could you try something for me? Can you maximize your browser window and let me know if the problem goes away?

It looks to me like the update from before was trying to make the menus work better on tablet devices, where the menu is supposed to be in a drop down to save space. And it seems like the width of the browser window you were using was just small enough to trigger the menu change.

Thank you. So there’s no way to resolve it? I’m working on a Mac Air and had a near full screen browser triggering it so am sure many others would end up seeing it with just the drop down too which is not what I was hoping for. Thanks again.

I actually checked in with our developers and I was wrong. No changes have been made recently that would affect when the menu switches. Sorry I was wrong about that!
It’s possible you have changed some settings in your browser and are triggering the menu switch earlier than before because of that. Can you check your zoom settings for me and make sure they are set to 100%? In the Chrome browser, you can do that by going to View > Actual Size or pressing Cmd + 0.

All right. In that case, the theme is working normally and the menu switches to the small-screen version when a browser is about 1280px wide and has been like that for some time (sorry I got that part wrong earlier!).
I put in a request to see if it can be adjusted, but it may not be accepted because the theme’s current behavior has been established and is designed to work the way it does now intentionally so that tablets will show the smaller menu. The request will be reviewed the next time the theme is worked on, and there isn’t a specific time frame so we just need to wait until that happens. It’s likely they will keep the current behavior because it was the original intended design, but you never know!
