Menu appearance

On the website that I am working on, it looks like this when I hover over a link.

But I want it to select the “block” around the link (it’s hard to see, but there’s a darker black around the link when I hover over it.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If I understand correctly, you’re trying to select a block that’s hidden behind the menu link. To make it easier to view and select all the blocks on your page, I recommend using the List View. You can find instructions on how to access it here:

Thanks. That’s not what I’m trying to do. Sorry for the confusion. It looks like only part of my question was posted.
I want it to look like this:

It doesn’t show up very well, but the “box” around OEM Part Manufacturing has changed colors to black.
How do I change my navigation so that the website will do this.
The original website is in Lodestar. I am working in Matrioska.

The lay-out of Lodestar is completely different from Matrioska. Matrioska doesn’t inheret layout from Lodestar. That’s why there isn’t a black block around a link in the navigation.
It’s always possible to change that look, but then you must have a very good knowledge of CSS.
