Menu Customisation help request
-
Dear sir/madam
Good morning to you. I am currently doing a website on a former regiment of the British army. (1420kh.com) (1420h.wordpress.com) and have found a theme which suits my needs to the exception of one thing (to date).
The drop down menus do not set their width to 100% of the largest text, therefore when you hover over one of the menus the menus drop down and the wording sometimes is short in length and deep to allow the wording to fit.
Can you please tell me how I can amend that to allow the menu to be as wide as the longest text so this does not happen if possible?
thank you
Paul Baker

.main-navigation ul { white-space: nowrap; }Please try this style and see if it helps. I presume you have Custom Design upgrade on your account that allows you to add custom CSS like above :-)

Ahh, although it goes to the correct width now the background colour does not, the colour goes the same distance as before leaving a clear background behind half the text. look at http://www.1420h.com and hover over regiment – regimental uniform..

Let’s set the width of sub menus to auto. Currently it is 136px.
.main-navigation ul ul ul a { width: auto; } -
Wow, outstanding.
Now however the dots on the pop out do not cover the whole width of the extended pop out menu, in battle honours – Peninsular 1808 -1814 the pop out . Probably something I will have to live with?
You are a star, thanks

Is there anyway to set the mani menu drop down to 100%? If I add another word ‘The’ it becomes too long and again hangs over the green zone…

We can set the width to auto but this shortens the border like it is happening currently with the second level menu of the BATTLE HONOURS.
I don’t know exactly what it is but it is something to do with the top border of each menu item. If you notice, the length of the separator lines is as long as the length of the text beneath.
I can’t work on this again until tonight. Hopefully some other volunteer helps your meanwhile.

Please remove the previously added
.main-navigation ul ul ul a { width: auto; }and add the following rule which sets the width for Badges and Distinctions and Regimental March menu items within The Regiment :
li#menu-item-385, li#menu-item-214 { width: 250px; }This is not a great solution but it works. Please try it and let me know how it goes.
