Menu drop down to sub item not working on iPhone or iPade
-
The menu drop down arrows to sub items on my site are not working on iPhone 14, iPad, or Samsung Galaxy A71 using Safari, Chrome, or Firefox browsers. I am using template Twenty Sixteen with pages created using blank pages. The drop down arrows for work fine on PC using Microsoft Edge. It was working fine on iPhone and iPad until a few days ago.
The first image shows what happens when I click on the drop down. The second shows the menu at the bottom of the page, with no drop downs at all.
Is this a problem with WordPress or the template or something else?

Good Morning –
I’ll be happy to take a closer look at these mobile views with you. Please indicate which version numbers of Safari, Chrome, or Firefox browsers are affected. I’ll need that information for testing purposes. It will also be helpful to know which software version numbers those devices are running as well.
It was working fine on iPhone and iPad until a few days ago.
This is interesting. It would be unlikely for all of those services to have some kind of update that would break this menu across multiple browsers at the same time. Do I understand correctly that this menu did work previously and that it’s only in the last few days it has stopped showing the dropdowns?
When looking at the theme demo on my mobile I see the same behavior. You can check that for yourself too: https://twentysixteendemo.wordpress.com/
Cheers! I will get to work on this and inform the folks that need to have a closer look.

Looks like our team has already been notified about this menu behavior on
https://github.com/Automattic/themes/issues/7092
On work around might be to put everything in the menu as a top level item and remove the sub categories until this can get fixed. I think a better option might be that you could also link the sub categories on to a page directly. So, if I go to your site and I click on buy the book from the menu I would then see all of the sub menu items displayed on this page https://abbasongbysong.wordpress.com/buy-the-book/ rather than in the menu directly.

Hi there!
I don’t have the technical details, as the issue has been reported to the developers, who are still working on it. But I can confirm that it is a known issue. You may consider @staff-zinnia’s suggestions above or switch to a newer theme that doesn’t have this issue.
Feel free to let us know if you have more questions.

Thanks for looking into this. Yes, the drop downs had been working fine until last week. I’m not sure when I noticed it, but probably around the same time as the issue raised here https://github.com/Automattic/themes/issues/7092.
On my iPhone 14:
iOS 16.5
Safari 16.5
Chrome 114.0.5735.50On my 10 year old iPad mini:
iOS 9.3.5I’m not sure what operating system and browser versions my friend with the Samsung phone is using. I expect the latest versions.
I had noticed that the drop downs are also not working in the demo https://twentysixteendemo.wordpress.com/. I tried experimenting with other templates with similar menu functions and the drop downs worked.

Thanks, Are you referring to my question? My issue is the text in a column is showing in the header with the page name. How can I remove it?
-
The page and the header have the same name, that’s why they’re both showing the same thing. You can have a blank page name (it shows up as “untitled” under Pages in the Dashboard), and rename the page in the Menus option under Appearance in the Dashboard so it’s not showing as “untitled”. Does that answer your question?
