Menu functions

  I’m having trouble figuring out how to use the menus along the top of my blog. I’d like to have my readers be able to click on one of the choices up there and be taken to a new page with posts relating to this menu choice. I’ve tried to create posts, pages, menus, but am getting very confused! I just tried to make a new post, but it showed up on the front page and I somehow created another menu choice at the top named after the blog post!! Help!
