Menu icon not working

  I’ve had my website for about four years. The menu has always worked (by clicking in the header on either the word Menu or the hamburger icon) until the last couple of months. But now, when I move the cursor over the word Menu or the icon, it becomes a hand symbol, so it looks like it’s going to work, but when I click on it, nothing happens. It doesn’t go to my menu. All it does is put an asterisk at the end of my URL. The developers of the theme (The Writer theme, by Obox) have not offered support for their theme for years, so that’s a dead end. I deactivated all my plugins temporarily to see if that had any effect, but the menu still didn’t work. I don’t have any CSS skills. Can anybody help?
