Menu issue – The Boardwalk Theme.
-
Hi, I set up a menu with three pages ona The Boardwalk Theme: https://performingborders.wordpress.com/
The name of the default menu is ‘the project’ and the pages below it are: ‘about’, ‘interviewee’ and ‘resources’. The problem is that when you click on any of the pages and then click back to the munu button on the top right, instead of having the name ‘the project’, the menu is called ‘interviewees’. Only going back to the home page and then clicking on menu, I get ‘the project’ back. I cannot find any solution for it and the blog shoudl be launched tomorrow (monday 15th Feb). Could you help me?Thanks a lot,
Alessandra

Hello Alessandra,
It appears to me that ‘The project’ entry of the menu is the actual homepage of the blog (https://performingborders.wordpress.com/)
You need to adjust this on the Menu area.
I think you need to add the Home/The Project entry on the menu, that’s why you can’t see it anywhere but on the homepage. What you can see on the menu displayed on the homepage is actually the “title” of the page, and that explains why on the Interviewee pages the name is repeated twice (one is the displayed page “title” and the other one is the entry on the menu).I hope this is all clear. Let me know if you need any further assistance :)

Hi Stefania, thanks a lot. Unfortunately I’m not sure I understood how to solve this conundrum so I’d like to pick your brain if you have a moment.
What I did now is to go on ‘Theme’ – ‘Customize’ -‘Menu’ and add ‘home/the project’ as a primary menu there.
Now if I click on the top left I can see ‘Menu’ and then ‘the project’ followed by the 3 pages (‘about’, ‘interviewees’ and ‘resources’ – respectively in position 1, 2 and 3).
The problem is that that strange thing is still happening and I cannot find any page or menu (both on Theme-customize and Menu directly on the dashboard) called ‘the project’ within the overall site so really not sure how to intervene.
Not sure whether it makes sense and I do hope you can spare some time to help me with what is probably a very silly issue.
All the best,
Alessandra

Hi Alessandra,
You did all good. What you have to do now is to add another entry at the top of ‘about’, ‘interviewees’ and ‘resources’ which will lead the readers to the homepage.
You’ve called the whole menu ‘The Project’, so now you need to add an hyperlinked text to go back to the homepage. To do that, providing you’re still on the Menu area and have selected ‘The Project’ menu to edit, click on Add Items.
Select Custom Link, then put http://performingborders.wordpress.com as URL and The Project as Link Text.
Then click on Add to Menu. Once this new entry is on your menu, you can move up to the first position.
Save your edits and check the website again, that should work.I’ll leave you here the support page about Custom Menu in case you need to have a look at it whilst editing your menu: https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
Hope it will work. Let me know how it goes!

HI Stefania,
So sorry for my delay (really busy period a work). Unfortunately also with the new way and changing the name of the defoult menu, the menu double instead of just chanjing name. Really don’t know what is wrong. I’ll try again later and hopefully I can find a solution. Meanwhile thanks again for your support.
Best wishes,
Alessandra

Hi Alessandra,
You’re right, there’s a slight mistake on the menu entries titles, and apparently you didn’t manage to add an entry for the homepage (to come back to the homepage from the menu layout).
Let me know at what point you get stuck and what doesn’t sound right to you, and I will help you :)
