-
Hi! I have a menu on the right side of my blog. I have an about me link that I am trying to get to link to my about me “page” or “post” I created. How do I properly link the link to the page/post so that my viewers can easily click on it to read about me. Thanks for you help!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Mackenzie!
Are you referring to your site househomecasa.com? If so, it looks like that site is running the Fictive theme, which doesn’t offer a menu on the right-hand side of the screen. However, with Fictive, you can enable a menu on the left side of the screen. To do so, just follow the instructions here:
Can you give that a try and let me know if that works for you?

Hi! Yes, i am referring to my site househomecasa. I meant my menu option on the left side. I watched the video and my problem is when I click the link it pulls up my first post and the about me page is below it… rather than displaying solely the about me page. So when guest click about me ( if they haven’t scrolled down ) they will see my first post on the screen rather than the about me section I created. How to I make it JUST show the about me page when the about me is clicked on the left menu bar? Thanks!

Hi Mackenzie!
We can definitely get you setup. So, the first thing we need to address are your Reading Settings here:
https://househomecasa.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php
Currently, your “Front page” and “Posts page” are the same. They should be different. Here’s what I’m proposing:
- We set your front page back to “Latest Posts”. This way, your latest blog posts will appear as a feed on the front of your page.
- After we do that, we’ll now have a separate URL for your About page (househomecasa.com/about-me). The reason this URL isn’t working now is that the About Me page is set as your home page so househomecasa.com/about-me automatically redirects to househomecasa.com.
Let’s get that setup first and then we can work on making sure your menu looks great on your sidebar. Can you give that a try?

Hey Jeremy-
OK ! That worked! My about me link now works but my first post has now disappeared…. LOL so sorry I am getting the hang of this blog and hopefully all these glitches will help me learn the ropes. Let me know what our next step is… thanks! -
Hey Mackenzie!
Great – it looks like our Reading Settings are set correctly. Regarding the post you’re referring to, this could be two different things:
- If you’re referring to the page Welcome to House.Home.Casa. seen here:
http://househomecasa.com/welcome-to-house-home-casa/
That page is still alive and well. However, it is a page rather than a post. You can read more about the distinction here:
Basically, pages won’t automatically show up on your front page feed. However, we can get a link to that page to show up on your sidebar. You’ll just need to add the page to your menu here:
- If you’re referring to the post titled This is a Test Post! Lets get this thing going!!! seen here:
https://househomecasa.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=10&action=edit
You’ll just need to publish that post before it shows up on your front page (it’s a draft now)
Let me know which one you were referring to!
- If you’re referring to the page Welcome to House.Home.Casa. seen here:

Thanks Jeremy-
You are very helpful :)
I would like to make this page a post… is there an easy way to do so?
http://househomecasa.com/welcome-to-house-home-casa/
I will now know in the future that I need to post and not make pages. Can post still be linked in the side menu? Thank you so much for all your help!Mackenzie

Hi Mackenzie!
In order to turn that page into a post, you will need to just copy and paste the content into a new post. Instructions on creating a new post can be found here:
Currently, there isn’t a way to convert a page into a post without manually copying and pasting the content. Once you’ve created the post, you’ll likely want to unpublish the page to avoid duplicate content. You can do that using the Quick Edit option:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/edit-pages-screen/#quick-edit
Regarding adding the new post to your sidebar menu, the easiest way to do that would be to use a custom link as described here:
You would just need to copy the URL of the post.
Can you give that a try and let me know if it works for what you’re looking for?
