menu nesting not working

  i have made ‘book’ a parent, with three sub-pages — overview, endorsements and excerpts. They show up correctly on the menu page; however,
  (1) when I click on ‘book’ it just shows a blank page, no children; and
  (2) the sidebar menu on the left is always falling off my computer screen, such that I can barely click on ‘book’ and so not see the rest of the pages
