Menu not working

I am using the free site, with a free theme. On the Android mobile browser, the menu isn’t working at all. Clicking on it results in nothing.

The site is working on desktop and Chrome mobile, just not on the base Android mobile browser. I’ve tried multiple themes, and had the same issue.

I really like the theme I’m using, and don’t want to have to change it again.

  • Hi @nmsprose, can you send more information? I just checked from my android phone and everything seems to work. I’m using the built-in Chrome, up to date.

I’m running two browsers on my phone.

When I view the site in Chrome, the menu works fine. However, with the other browser (the globe symbol on my apps tab) the menu doesn’t work.

Not sure if it’s the browser or not. When viewing the site in this stock browser, the menu works with some themes and not with others.

If it’s just an issue with my phone, then no big deal. I just don’t know.

  • It sounds like an issue with your phone’s stock browser, yes. That browser is not actually Android’s, though – Android belongs to Google, and they bundle the Chrome browser with that OS. Any stock browser on your phone would rather be from the phone’s manufacturer, and included in their particular Android skin.

Can you tell us what model phone you have, and for which themes the menu isn’t working in that browser? I can’t promise we’ll be able to fix this – stock browsers like these don’t always offer full support for all the code used on the web, and ensuring compatibility with all of them is a mammoth task so we mostly focus on the most-used browser (the ones listed at https://browsehappy.com/), but if we have more details we can at least try to confirm this is indeed the issue and not something else.

It’s an old Straight talk phone. An LG L34C. This is probably the issue. In which case, feel free to close the topic. If it’s working fine on updated Chrome, then that’s fine.

As for themes, the only ones that the menu DID work on were Lovecraft and Bransbury (I think that’s what it’s called.)

I click on every free theme that popped up on my list and none but those two worked.

  • That’s wild. Not sure if it’s a browser setting or what, but it sounds like it’s not very standards compliant, as those menus are pretty common.

    Sorry about that!

If you want to troubleshoot further, head to https://www.whatsmybrowser.org/ and let us know your results. It is possible for browsers to send incorrect data on that, but maybe if we’re lucky we’ll find out what you’re using.

The browser is called Android Webview 45.

    Never heard of it. Lol

And as I said, this is an old phone, and a cheap one at that.

  • I took care of the double post for you, no worries on that.

I think that browser might not be your best choice, hehe. But you can take comfort in knowing the site displays well in other browser. And if you want to, you could add the same menu to your sidebar as a Custom Menu Widget. Then it’ll display when folks scroll down on mobile.
