Menu Resetting
-
Hi Guys,
I have customised the menu (I don’t know why I did this…it might have been simpler to leave it running as it was originally).
I have added some more pages to the menu, and now it keeps resetting (drops sub-para entries to become a para header) without my ability to correct it.
When I change it, it rests when I save the menu.I tried deleting a page and adding a duplicate made afresh, but now the same thing happens except that it has become worse.
Can you help me out please? ^^

Hello there! We will get you all ironed out :)
I see you have three menus created in your Appearance → Menus page.
Could you tell me which Custom Menu you want to use?
Also, I need to understand exactly how you want your menu to function, in order to assist. Providing me a tree of some sort that displays Menu Items and Sub Menu Items would be very helpful.
Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much!

Thanks Robyn!
I created three only because I couldn’t get the first two to work. I was just messing around, as best a Luddite can do…
Essentially, all three menus are the same (or have the same intent).
I would stick with Menu 1 and delete the other two.
It would look like this:
Finding Your Gold (Home)
Unpacking
Advisory
-Public Diplomacy
Asia
-Korea
Projects
-100 Hints For Company Commanders
-Reconceiving Asia
-Opportunity Asia
-Emerging Leaders Dialogue
-Friendship Tree
-Yi Sun Shin Annual Dinner
-Our Shared Future
-Oddfellows
Social Impact
-10 City Bridge Run
-Veterans
-White Rabbit
Blog
About
-Biography
-Alchemy
-Our Thinking
ContactThe archive was just a way for me to order some pages which I will soon turn into draft and take off the menu and the active site.
I sort of became stuck because some of the sub-item pages I was trying to reflect in the menu kept defaulting to main pages (as is the case now).
Thanks for your response, and I hope you can help me make this another great wordpress site! ^^

Ok Matt, I helped to neaten up your menu based on the tree below. If you had pages/titles in the tree that I didn’t see in your list of pages, I didn’t create anything new. You may have to add/delete as needed.
I got rid of the pages you didn’t want in your menu, but you can add those back as you’d like, of course.
It seems like you’re able to add pages, and drag them into position. The one thing you’ll want to use is the “out from under” link, when you want to change a sub-menu item into a top-level menu item. I’ve highlighted that link in red here:
https://cloudup.com/c2s7nSo3pYeI hope this gets you back on track, at least, and that you’re able to edit and complete your menu from here! Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks much!

Hi Robyn,
All good.
The site is working well, thanks. One other issue to resolve before I can get it relaunched on the custom domain: I have posted a support request earlier but heard nothing back, so sent it here again in case it could be something you might have an answer to as well.

Hey Matt!
It looks like Eric has responded to your other thread. Please follow up with him if you need further help with your DNS records! :)

Hi Robyn and Shawna (or whoever gets to this first! ^^),
Thanks for your earlier advice.
The problem I addressed most recently has been resolved with Eric’s assistance.I have one question about menus continuing the earlier thread of this ticket:
A couple of sub-pages have been added from a previous build, and still carry the old address which is no longer relevant.
I can’t seem to correct these:
Can you tell me how I can overcome it?An example is:
http://socialalchemy.com.au/advisory/leadership-collaboration-resilience/korea/The sub-page “leadership-collaboration-resilience” no longer exists, and “korea” falls directly under “advisory”.
Can I change these parent level pages in the url here and in other pages?
Thanks for your help!

PS:
Just playing around with the site, sometimes it is working (like now…).
Go figure?!So, in one sense, the problem seems to be ‘fixed’, but in one case it directed to the correct sub-page with the new url displayed, and then on the next click went through to the correct sub-page, but this time with the old url displayed (ie. with “leadership-collaboration-resilience” still in the url)
Will this self-correct in time, or is it something I need to fix myself.
My sense from this observation is that it is a matter of propagation, but I am not entirely sure.
Thanks again,
Matt

PPS:
It seems the menu is a problem only with http://socialalchemy.com.au/advisory/leadership-collaboration-resilience/korea/ and not the earlier sub-para http://socialalchemy.com.au/public-diplomacy/.Both work (albeit a little temperamental at the moment), but getting the address to reflect the current structure would be good.

Hey there!
It looks like the reason why “leadership-collaboration-resilience” is still being included in your links is that that is the slug for your page “Connecting” which is set as the Parent of your page “Korea”.
All of this should be fixed once you correct your slugs. You can do this by heading to your list of Pages. And then select the “Quick Edit” button under each page. Check that the “slug” listed is the one you want and save any changes.
As long as your Parent pages are set up the way you want, those URLs should update themselves shortly. :)
As a note, if you notice any slugs that end with “-2” you’ve likely created a page with this name before. If removing the “-2” doesn’t work, you’ve likely still got that old page in your trash. Just head over to your trash list and permanently delete the old page. Then you’ll be able to change the slug.
Let me know if you need help with that!
