Menu scrambled!
-
My primary menu became completely scrambled. I made changes, saved them then things ended up all over the place. Re-did all the changes, saved menu and now things are really re-arranged. Is something going on with wordpress right now or is there some rule I violated? Are there limits to the number of items that can be on menus? Please help!

Hi there!
When I visit your custom menu called, “Main Bar Menu,” it appears to match the menu I am seeing on the main page of your site (http://advocatesforfamiliesfirst.org).
If you are not seeing the Main Bar Menu appear correctly as your primary menu on your main page, please clear your cache and cookies using the guide below, and see if that’s made a positive change for you:
If this hasn’t changed your menu’s appearance for the better, could you tell me what is out of order so I can better troubleshoot the issue for you? You can provide screenshots, if you think that would assist me in understanding the problem.
Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

Taking screen shots would have been a good thing to do. It was the craziest thing. I’d save the menu in one order and things just moved around completely randomly – losing hierarchy, changing locations. It happened multiple times and I spent so much time on it I just dumped everything into a level that wouldn’t show on the web site until I can go back and spend more time on it. I was hoping there was some kind of undo to be able to go back to a previous day’s setting like you can with the CSS changes and also wanted to make sure there wasn’t some rule I was violating (too many items?) that would cause such a crazy issue. I encountered some other things yesterday that made me think wordpress might be experiencing problems (for instance got a page that said “something has gone wrong with our servers. It’s probably Matt’s fault”). I’ll try again tomorrow and see if I can fix everything and if the problem repeats, I’ll take screen shots!
Thank you! -
Hi again!
I’m going to hope you do not have to take those screenshots, and that all will be working well with your menus! However, if things look odd, definitely send me images and I can follow up.
Thanks so much!

No such luck. So, how do I send you my screen captures?
I did a capture pre and post saving the menu to show what’s happening. -
Okay, I did not know how to insert a screen shot so I created this page with the screen shots.

Hi there,
I’ve checked out the screenshots you’ve provided and read your note.
A couple questions:
1. You mentioned, “My supervisor has created some pages and not assigned a parent or assigned a random parent and then located the pages within the menu where they should reside (and where they should have been set up in the parent field). Is it possible that this could be making everything go out of whack?” This actually could be part of the issue. The main problem being an inconsistency of the way these pages/menu items are created. Is it possible to have your supervisor use the system as you’ve already developed it?
2. Right now, I see your menu structure matches the menu on your front page. Could you confirm that this is the case on your end, as well? I’m not entirely certain if the discrepancy is happening between your menu structure and published page, or if all of the problem is occurring on the menu structure page itself. Ie: you create a menu, you save it, the menu structure does not appear as you had created it.
3. “This order by the way, has existed just fine until 2 days ago when making a change in a different part of the menu created some kind of chaotic reaction.” Could you tell me what change you were attempting to make? I can track backward from there.
4. Finally, I would like to know what menu structure you want to achieve. So, not only is it important for me to know what’s NOT working properly, it would help if you could give me a menu tree, so I can experiment with the correct order of your menu. It doesn’t have to be fancy. It can be an outline, or any format that makes it obvious what the menu items, sub menu items, and sub-sub menu items.
Thanks so much! Thanks much!
