Hi,
menu structure, what it looks like
Please explain what you mean by menu structure. The demo corresponding to a theme typically demonstrates what the various menus supported on the theme look like and how they behave, although in the case of the Independent Publisher 2 demo, only a Header menu is included (and not the Social menu).“primary” menu
The primary menu is typically in a the header area on a site, but precisely how and where it displays can vary from theme to theme, and it’s appearance can vary on the same theme depending upon the size of the screen on which it’s viewed. Independent Publisher 2 doesn’t even support a menu identified as “primary.” The two supported are the Header and the Social menus. However, except on themes that offer multiple header menus, the terms “header menu” and “primary menu” may generally be considered interchangeable.
locations
Menu locations can include top of the header area (left or right, horizontally displayed, vertically displayed, displayed by prompting a slideout, etc.), bottom of the header area, sidebar area, footer area, etc.support info
The number of menus supported on a theme, their locations, and the types of menus available are typically described in the menus section of the corresponding theme guide. The menus supported on the theme applied to your site are briefly described in the Custom Menus section of the Independent Publisher 2 theme guide. The custom menus on your site can be created, customized, and managed at Customize > Menus.

Hi there!
I understand where you’re coming from. When you go to My sites > Design > Customize > Menus > and you click the menu you’d like to work on, are you able to see the structure a bit better?
The layout there shows which menu items will appear in the menu and then if you have any items underneath others (which show as drop down items on your site), you should see them indented a space to the right.
Let us know if there is something specific that you were expecting to see and aren’t!
Thanks
