Menu Top Bar
-
Hi,
I am using the Free Sketch WP theme and want to have the menu bar on the top, in a horizontal fashion and now vertically.
What settings do I need to change in order match the theme to the one shown in the live preview?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The detailed theme description is at this link http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/sketch/ Sketch includes one Custom Menu in the header, which can be configured by going to Appearance → Menus.
You will also note that the menu is “hidden” behind a link.Technically you can’t post to more than one page on any blog but do read on. Static Pages and dynamic Category Pages are not the same. The former cannot automatically update but the latter do.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/If you want to have pages that do update then they must be replaced by dynamic category pages that will automatically update every time you publish a post assigned to the relevant category.
By default the front page of the blog is the post that displays all posts in your blog. Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts (not pages) http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page.
We organize posts by assigning categories to them. You can create a custom menu and add the dynamic categories pages into the custom menu.

Create a custom menu and include the page and the sub-pages in it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

If you are looking for a theme that displays a top horizontal menu then choose another one because Sketch is not designed to have one.

Hi Timethief,
I use Sketch theme and I feel sure it used to have a horizontal menu when I started using it, and now just has the “button”. I don’t think I’m mistaken because the screenshot at the top of the Sketch theme page shows the horizontal menu.
So I wonder why it was changed. And I really wish it was changed back or an option for either configuration provided.

Hi there,
I just set my test blog to Sketch and the menu bar is currently horizontal across the top of the home page. I also verified that it is in the same place for you, @unklee: https://cloudup.com/cqI8HMOcR42
Are you still having these problems?

Hello,
I’ve set up a very basic web site with Sketch and I’m happy with everything else except for the menu “button” as also encountered by unklee.
I too want to turn that into a horizontal list but its equally important for me that on my home page the links to the other pages are immediately visible – at the moment the visitor has to click the “menu” button to get them.
Any advice on what to do would be welcome, but I don’t want to get involved in messing with Sketch at the code level.
Thanks

Hi David,
It looks like you’ve gotten Sketch all configured to show menus horizontally across the top of your theme. Well done!
