menu troubleshooting

Every time I save a menu format, it says ‘name is required for this term’. I have a name in the ‘name’ box and followed the tutorials exactly. What is happening?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m having the exact same problem — should I start a new topic or post my info here, too? My blog is http://notyouraveragecrochet.com

@psychedout88
Restore the Admin bar to the top of the blog because removing it is a Terms of Service violation that results in blog suspension. That is also stated in Custom design – Frequently Asked Questions
http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questionsThen create your own thread by using this link https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1

Hi folks, since this isn’t limited to one account, let’s go ahead and keep this in one thread…
That said, I haven’t been able to duplicate the problem yet. Can you tell me what steps you’re using?

I’m having the same problem. http://uberscribbler.com/
According to @Timethief’s criteria:
a) I’m using an HP Laptop
b) Chrome – latest.
c) I’m customizing my Primary ‘menu1’ to add another submenu ‘social media’ to the ‘Hire me’ tab. (print screen: https://uberscribbler.files.wordpress.com/2016/01/menu-structure.jpg), when I click the Save menu option, I get the following error: https://uberscribbler.files.wordpress.com/2016/01/error-screenshot.jpg -
I am having the same problem too.
Theme: 2010
Site:https://gcdisputeresolution.files.wordpress.com
Actions taken: Click on menu item in WP-Dashboard, select remove, a brief flash of red happens, menu item is removed.
Go to “save” and error message appears at top. -

@timethief I’m sorry, but I think the admin bar is still there (unless I did something on accident?), I just set my links to be a dark grey and it affects that, too. Not sure how to change that?
@supernovia I’m just trying to drag and drop my “contacts” page to be a sub item to my “about” page and the message pops up when I hit “Save Menu”: http://wp.me/a1DWME-12B
-
(a) I’m on a Macbook Pro
(b) Latest version of Google Chrome
(c) Not able to save my custom menu. I had a main menu created and tried to add a new page to it. From there, I would get a message stating “there was a problem saving your menu”. That went on for a while. But then I noticed, after deleting and trying to recreate the same menu, once I added a “sub item” to one page, my blog would freak out: that meaning, my menu would all of a sudden add all my pages in random orders, varying numbers (I could have 3 of my photography pages, 2 of my welfare pages) and no page would be in the place I put them. I then went into WP Admin, tried the same thing, and the moment I tried to add one of my pages I would get “a name is required for this term”. I would only get that message when adding a page I created, if I wanted to add the “Home” page that wordpress created, it would be fine. -

I am also having issues with my Custom Menus.
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(a) Device: HP ENVY dv7-7243cl Notebook PC: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c03482865&DocLang=en&docLocale=en_US&jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0002
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://supportdetails.com/
(b) Browser: Firefox 43.0
(c) Exactly what you experience including exactly what any error reports you receive state.
(c) Experience: I cannot make any changes to Custom Menus. When clicking “Save Menu,” I receive an error that reads: “A name is required for this term” even when no edit has been made or I try to create a new menu. | One of the links on my Custom Menu is bringing up a “404: Page Not Found” message. The “Photography” link on my Custom Menu is linking to: http://noellembrooks.com/type/gallery/ and has always worked in the past. This page should link to all posts marked as the “Gallery” format. | I believe the “Photography” page was working yesterday as I received an email commenting on content found on that page. When going to the page to see what the email was referring to, I noticed that I cannot load the page.
(d) Screenshots can be helpful.

Hey all, I fixed mine apparently. I created a test website to see if it had the same issues, and now everything works fine on my actual blog… No error messages as of yet and I have been able to put my menu in correct order. Maybe someone here should try that too and see if it helps as well?

@maxineransom Wow, that did actually work…Switching to one of the other blogs I manage, saving a Custom Menu, and then switching back to the problem blog now allows me to save my Custom Menus without any issues.
I am still having the issue in which my http://noellembrooks.com/type/gallery/ URL is showing as 404: Page Not Found, though, even though I have posts marked as the “Gallery” format.
-
I just tried updating my menu again (without creating a test site) and it updated without the error. Must have been a glitch that is now fixed.

@uberscribbler No, the Category and Type/Format filters are different. The Type/Format filter will select all posts of a certain type/format, regardless of category, and the Category filer will select all posts from a certain category, regardless of format. The Avid Theme that I am using has a custom page for the Gallery Type page, so it’s important that it is working.
Just to double-check, I tried http://noellembrooks.com/category/gallery, and that still pulls up a “404: Page Not Found” page.
