I am trying to design a website for a local school, but I’m trying to find out how to add photos to the background behind the text boxes as well as how to add drop down menus, and menus on the left side as well as the top. Please help. I have other sites I have done, but can’t seem to find the controls to use your service for a meeting I have for tomorrow. Please advise.

Allow me to answer your questions individually:
To include a background like the one you see in the TextBook theme preview, you’ll need to add a Custom Header image. For instructions on how to do this check out our Custom Header Image support page.
In regards to your question about the menu on the left, this theme only offers three menus: A header on the top of the page (your primary menu), a social menu on the top right (for your social media links), and a footer all the way at the bottom of your page.
To set up your various menus, with dropdowns, go to Customizer and click Menus. Here you’ll find options for creating menu items. If you want to create a dropdown list of menu items, just drag each newly created menu item under the main menu item in the sidebar all the way to the left.

Fortunately the theme you’re using, TextBook, also has one of the more descriptive overviews! I’d suggest checking that out too if you haven’t already.
