Menus in the Bueno theme

  • Unknown's avatar

I can’t seem to make the custom menu work in Bueno. Despite the test menus I add, they simply do not show up in my blog. The custom menus documentation for themes does not jive with what is actually available in the Bueno theme, but that doesn’t seem to matter. I am obviously doing something fundamentally wrong. No matter what I do, the About menu item persists and I can’t get anything else to stick. Would like your help before I abondon Bueno and completely rebuild my blog.

Have you read thesacredpath’s tutorial on custom menus? I think you will find that it’s very comprehensive and helpful. See > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/06/17/custom-menus-arrive-at-wordpress-com/

Thanks very much for the general reply. Unfortunately,my question is specific to the Bueno theme, or it’s something specific that I am doing out of sequence that is causing the menu function to fail. I’ll go back to trial and error which is time consuming and if I figure out what I’ve done wrong, I’ll share it on the forum. In the meantime, if there is anyone out there who has bumped into this issue, I’d love to hear.

    Sequence (in Appearance>Menus) is:
    a) You tick any Page or Category etc. and click Add to Menu. They should show up under the “Primary Menu”.
    b) You click Save Menu.
    c) You select the Primary Menu from the dropdown in the Theme Locations module and click Save.

But your blog has three posts only (all filed under Uncategorized and without tags) and no pages other than About. I don’t see what custom menu you’re expecting to create. If you want to get rid of the About page, you just click Pages in your dashboard sidebar, hover under its title and click Trash.

That’s it. The trick – which should have seemed obvious to me – is to create your pages first and then assign them to the main menu. I also had to read up on categories and pages before going further. When all else fails, read the instructions. I noticed that you can create a second menu, which I assume is intended to be used as an option, but it seems like a strange thing since you can only display one menu set at a time. Any clever ideas about how to use second, third (and so on) menus?

    a) If you only want pages on your top menu, you don’t need the Custom Menu feature: pages are what the standard menu of the theme automatically displays.

    b) Correct, in the theme you’re using (as in most) you can only display one menu at a time, so additional custom menus can only be alternatives. There are a couple of themes that can display two menus.

Thanks very much. Your first point helps clarify things.
