Menus jumping around

    This has only just started happening, and I fear it’s an “improvement”.
    When I’m in the editor, (the old, which I prefer, not the new, which I tolerate except when I need features missing in the new), the menus on the left and the right hand side disappear while I’m writing. Sometimes they flash back (presumably because I accidentally trigger it) which is really, really annoying when I’m concentrating on my writing.
    (To indicate how annoying it is, I’ve just spent *ages* trying to find how to post a new topic here at support.)
    Is this a feature for people using phones, and can it be switched off for people with nice wide screens please?
