We don’t have an ETA as to when this might get fixed, though I can confirm that our developers are still looking into it. However, there’s a CSS workaround at the moment. Custom CSS code can be added to sites with the WordPress.com Premium plan or higher (or with the standalone Custom CSS add-on).
May I know if you plan to upgrade your site anytime soon? You can add the following CSS code to your site by navigating to My Site → Appearance → Customize → Custom CSS if you upgrade to the Premium plan or higher or purchase the Custom CSS add-on.
