merchant’s account – how?

I checked with staff and they said one can sell one’s own book through a wordpress.com blog. Awesome!

I already have a PayPal account and know how to create that button. I would also like to set up options for paying via Mastercard and Visa (without going through PayPal). There are a lot of companies saying they are reputable, etc, but anyone can say anything on the internet. Does anyone know of a good option? It needs to allow me (in Canada) to charge in U.S. dollars.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Frankly, the best option is to go through Paypal. I kid you not. If you’re not dealing directly with a bank, Paypal, or Amazon.com, you can’t necessarily trust the company.

I live off my earnings in Paypal, and I know what a big bite they take out of your earnings, but in comparison to worrying about the money as a whole, it’s like nothing.

    Hi raincoaster,

Thank you for this. Can you tell me more?

My main concern is that a number of people seem very turned off by PayPal. (I have a PayPal account, and I know I always elect to do a direct MC payment where this is an option on a given site. This is mostly because I can never remember my password.)

It looks like a direct credit card option is going to run me at least $300 to set up, then another so much per month to software company, plus $9/mo to my bank, and… So, not gung ho about that, but very gung ho about encouraging transactions, and am willing to do whatever for people to proceed.

What do you mean about ‘worrying about the money’? Are people’s credit card payments not assured by the credit card company?

I know nothing, so any info is great!

People’s credit card payments sometimes go astray when you deal with third party companies. That’s all.

Anyone else here who’s tried a non-PayPal option for accepting MC and Visa?
