Merge accounts

  Hello. I seem to have two accounts

  (email visible only to moderators and staff)
  and
  (email visible only to moderators and staff)

  I would like to merge these accounts under 1 account using the e-mail (email visible only to moderators and staff)

  Can you help me with this process

  Hi John, no problem. The other username actually has quite a few sites associated with it, not to mention a nicer username. So I’d recommend “freeing up” this email address that you want to use, logging into the other account, and changing the email there.

  Please use these steps:

  1) Go to https://wordpress.com/me/account

  2) Enter the gmail address you currently use for the other account, EXCEPT, add +temp just before the @ sign. So it’ll look like (email visible only to moderators and staff). Check your email for a confirmation link and click that. Now the address you want to use is freed up again.

  3) Then, log out of this account. Log in with the gmail address (without temp). You can now go to https://wordpress.com/me/account and enter you preferred email address there, and confirm that by clicking the link that arrives.

  Oh I should add, too, while you can’t really merge accounts, you can move anything off of this account and move it onto the other once its got the email address you want. Since this new account has nothing but the email address that you want to use, though, I’d recommend just closing it out after you update the email to the temp address.

  Just be sure you do that after you update the address, otherwise it’ll be 30 days before the address you want is available. I hope that’s not too confusing, but if you need help, just let us know. Cheers!

  Thanks for the help,
  So I tried by entering (email visible only to moderators and staff) and it gave me a “e-mail not found error”

  Unless I totally missed your instructions. My plan is just to delete the account associated with john@dodreads. Wait 30 days and then change over the e-mail.

  Thanks for the video. You need to log in using your normal email address first, then update the email address under your account page to use that +temp version here:

  https://wordpress.com/me/account

  Once you confirm the email address update, you can update your email on the account you want to keep. Finally, you would then use the +temp version of the email to log in and subsequently delete the account.
