Merge an excisting WordPress Installation with WordPress.com Account

    Sorry, i need help, how can i merge a excisting private WordPress installation with a new wordpress.com Blog?

  • Hi there. I’m afraid you can’t “merge” the sites as they use completely different versions of the software.

    What you can do is export the content from your private installation as an XML export file (I’m assuming you can still do this with a local install, but if you have trouble with that you’ll need to ask in the WordPress.org forum). Then you can import this file to your WordPress.com site. This will transfer all posts, pages, tags, categories and comments. It normally transfers media files as well, but I’m not sure if it will transfer media files from an offline installation, so you might have to re-upload those manually.

    Any customisations you made, including headers, backgrounds, custom menus, etc. you’ll have to do again from the WordPress.com dashboard – there’s no way to transfer those.
