Merge two accounts
-
I need to merge my @lorenscherbak account with my @scherbakl account. Somehow I set up two. I have a wordpress.org site that is linked to wordpress.com using the @scherbakl account. Unfortunately it is using my old email account. I need to have email address that is being used by @lorenscherbak. I don’t need two accounts as they both point to the same website. I hope I can get this easily resolved. Thanks a lot! Loren

No problem, Loren. Do you care which username you’d like to keep? If you’re happy keeping this account, you can log in as the other user and transfer the site to @lorenscherbak, then close the @scherbakl account or simply leave it inactive for now.
Does that make sense?

Thanks, It makes sense, but I don’t see the option to change site owner. I see no drop down box or form for entering a new user. Maybe I need to use the app for this and not the online version? I will keep looking for it.
Thanks!

It looks like you have closed the @lorenscherbak account, yes? Since @scherbakl is already the owner of the site, deleting the other account is all you needed to do.
I think @supernovia may have though you were trying to do the opposite (delete scherbakl and keep lorenscherbak active) and in that event there would be more steps involved. They way you did it is even easier since all you had to do was delete @lorenscherbak, which I can confirm you have already done.
Hope this helps!

Thanks. Yes I did. Once I figured out there was nothing attached to the @lorenscherbak account, I deleted it. Maybe you can tell me where I can now change my email on the @scherbakl account. I tried to find it today, but couldn’t. Do I really have to wait a month until I can change the email for the @scherbakl account?
Thanks a bunch for following up and answering my endless questions. <smile>

Hi there,
Do I really have to wait a month until I can change the email for the @scherbakl account?
That’s the easiest and simpler way.
Alternatively, we can restore the @lorenscherbak account and then release the email address associated with it by entering a throwaway one. Then, you’ll be able to use that email with your @scherbakl account.
Let us know if you prefer that way and we’ll guide you with more detailed instructions.

I really appreciate the support you all are giving me. It is very reassuring to know you are out there. This is my first WordPress site and my first ever online store. I was concerned I wouldn’t get the emails I needed to see using my old email address. I seem to be getting them, so I think I can hold on for a month. I tried to release the (email visible only to moderators and staff) address from the @lorenscherbak account before I deleted it by assigning another email address. Unfortunately I couldn’t make it work. So, in frustration, and to not confuse the now online store work I still have to do, I deleted the account that was the problem.
Again, thanks for your quick responses to my issue. I am hopeful I made the right choice in moving to WordPress for a CMS for my online store. Your responses have confirmed, at least for this beginning growing pains period, that I made the right decision. I will take your advice and just wait out the period.
Have a great rest of the week! Spring is on the way for we North American folks!
