merged theme and template

I had a template installed and it was merged with a theme, meaning components of both were showing on my live website. How can I fix this so that the website just shows the theme chosen?

Hi there,
I see your site melanieamrichcom.wordpress.com is using the Exford theme. You are hoping to have it use the layout you see here? https://wordpress.com/theme/exford
To clarify, For the most part, changing your theme is a lot like changing the clothing on a mannequin. Your content (pages, blog posts, uploaded media) don’t go anywhere or change that much… they just assume the style of the new theme
Or to think of it another way, when you change from one theme to another you may not see the appearance of the theme demo automatically.
The good news is that you can get the homepage layout by starting a new page (which you can later set as your homepage) and picking the Exford layout from the list of predefined layouts.
This is difficult to explain in words, so I recorded a quick video to show you how to find and activate that layout.
You can view the at this link: https://d.pr/v/WlG8ub
Once you have the content added to the page you can replace the demo text/images with your content and set it as the homepage of your site. Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
