How do I merge a WordPress account, with no website, to a WordPress account made thru Dreamhost, which has the current website that I want to keep.

    WP.com: Unknown
    Jetpack: Unknown
    Correct account: Unknown

  • Hi there,

There’s no way to do that, as WordPress.com, and the open source WordPress software you used to create your site at Dreamhost, are two completely different things.

The admin user account you use to log into the WordPress dashboard on your Dreamhost site is completely unique to that specific site. You can’t use that account to access any other site or service, and it also cannot be merged with another account on any other site or service. That account exists in your site’s database, and can only be used to access that one site.

The account you used to create this forum thread, on the other hand, is a username account for the service, WordPress.com. You use this account to create a site you host on our servers, or to follow other people’s blogs in the WordPress.com Reader. You need a WordPress.com account if you want to create a Gravatar profile or if you want to buy plugins from WooCommerce.com, but this account has nothing to do with your site at Dreamhost.

If you wanted to, you can use a plugin called Jetpack to connect your Dreamhost site to your WordPress.com account, which would allow you to manage that site via either this account or your admin user account on the site itself. But that’s entirely optional, and you’ll still have two separate accounts.

If you wanted to, you can completely delete this WordPress.com account, and it won’t have any effect at all on your site at Dreamhost.

Let me know if you have any questions about this.
