merging different sites

Hello, I have created a site using wordpress.org and my department has a wordpress.com account for micaphoto.com. I am wondering if I can expand the domain name to be handbook.micaphoto.com to direct to the new site created?

Do I understand correctly that you would like to create a subdomain that would link to a site you have hosted elsewhere?
If so, you should be able to do it adding a CNAME record as explained here:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-subdomain/#connecting-your-subdomain-to-an-external-site
