Merging my website with my blog

    Hi, My name is Jim Root and I’m a professional bass fisherman/writer and I’m having a lot of traffic to my site and my blog, but that’s the problem, they’re not in the same place. My blog is hosted by you, and my site is hosted by GoDaddy. I want to merge them both into one, but I want it to look great and be engaging. I also want a better deal than what I have at GoDaddy. My website is http://www.JimRootFishing.com, and I’d like to have this transition done before my new TV show runs in January 2016.

    Hi there. Merging the two might be a bit tricky. One option is to move all the content of your website to the WordPress.com blog, in which case you’ll be restricted to the themes we have available on WordPress.com and you won’t be able to use any plugins, including mailing list subscription plugins. You also need a paid upgrade to make CSS customizations here. Let me know if you need more details on doing this.

    You can also create a blog section on you website and export your blog’s content over there, in which case you’ll be completely hosted on GoDaddy. We can help you with the export from this side, but for help with modifying your website you’ll need to ask in the WordPress.org forums: http://wordpress.org/support/

    A third option (and the simplest, I think) is to map your blog to a subdomain on your website, e.g. blog.jimrootfishing.com (jimrootfishing.com/blog as you currently have it is not supported for WordPress.com sites). In this case the they will still be separate sites, but they’ll be under the same domain. https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-subdomain/

    Let me know if you need more details or help with any of these options.

    You can also look at WordPress VIP. It’s very expensive and more aimed at corporations than individuals, but if you feel it’s worth it I think you’ll be able to completely merge your sites with them while staying on WordPress.com and having access to more advanced features: https://vip.wordpress.com/
