Messed up moving WordPress to root of website
-
I was trying to move WordPress to the root of my website. I assumed it was as simple as moving the contents up a directory. I am using, Linux based, CentOS 8. According to https://wordpress.org/support/article/giving-wordpress-its-own-directory/
I am wrong.I have not backed-up my site. It’s not done being designed, but I don’t want to redo it of course. Can anyone help?
In the WordPress folder I did mv ./* ../ The only other thing I did from the root of the website was ln -s ./ /wordpress (this was me trying to fix it, I don’t think this should cause any problems). Can I just move everything back to the WordPress folder and follow the steps in the article? The only file that is still in the WordPress(original) folder is the .htaccess. It seems like these are very unique files that can’t just be moved. What should I do?
If I just get back to my site being live, I can follow those steps.
Thanks in advance

Hi there!
We can’t help with sites that are not hosted on WordPress.com, I’m afraid.
Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so we can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. You can read more about the differences between WordPress.org software and WordPress.com here:
You can look for help at the community forums here: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
http://wordpress.org/support/ is also a great resource for sites using the open-source WordPress.org software.
