Thanks. The source code of your page shows that you only have an empty text widget in your sidebar. Please go to Design>Widgets and tell me what you see under “Current Widgets”. My guess is that the text widget was the only one you had tried to add. Most themes come with a small preset selection of suggested widgets; when you add one yourself, that signifies you take over, and the preset is cancelled. If I’m right, you can simply add whatever widgets you want now (including the Links widget, to have your blogroll back).

As for downsizing an image for your sidebar, two ways (apart from doing it in an image editing application):

One is to temporarily upload and insert it in an unpublished post, and edit its size there (in the visual post editor, by clicking on it then clicking the mountain icon that appears); once you’re done, you switch to the html editor, copy the whole code that has been produced, and paste it in the widget.

The other is directly with code. The plain image-in-a-widget code is this:
    <img src="URL_HERE"></a>
    For a scaled-down image:
    <img src="URL_HERE" width="150px"></a>
For a scaled-down image that links to the full-size original when clicked:
    <a href="URL_HERE"><img src="URL_HERE" width="150px"></a>
(150 is approximately the proper limit for the theme you’re using.)
