Meta Description uses the entire page content.

  Hi! I am on the free plan and just getting started with WordPress. By default, all the content in the page is being used to set the meta description leading to SEO errors that won’t even let my blog show up in the search results. You can check this behaviour on the source code of the services and about page of my blog. https://fancyfarawayfables.wordpress.com
  Is there a way to disable this. Perhaps some block that prevents the meta tag swooping up the whole page content for a simple description attribute? I tried switching themes but the issue persists.

  Your blog is only 3 days old and has only 2 posts. It can take up to 8 weeks or more before search engines crawl your site. I don’t know what gives you the idea all the content on the page is being used for the meta tags.

  Hi! Thanks for your help. I connected the site to Bing webmaster tools which throws the error – ‘Meta description too long or too small’. I checked the source for the services page and here is how the meta tag is populated.

  <meta name=”description” content=”Content Writing Stay relevant in the fast paced online world. I employ best SEO practices to create unique, up-to-date content that helps you find new customers and retain old ones. Creative Writing This is close to my heart as it lets my imagination soar. I am currently focussed on short stories, especially for children. Screenplays,…” />

  If you could navigate to the page, you would see that this is about two blocks of the page content. Since ‘…’ suggests more content, I figured the entire content is being processed. If I delete all the content and then test the url, Bing Webmaster tools accept is as valid. I could past screenshots here but I can’t see that option. Thanks again for your support.

  I am hoping someone would help me resolve the issue.
