Meta Descs and Excerpts

    Hi All

I’ve spent some time reading the many threads on setting the Meta Descriptions in WordPress.com, and one has a comment by a WP staff member that suggested that you can use an Excerpt to alter the Meta Desc for a blog post.

However can anyone suggest a way of setting an Excerpt or otherwise altering a Meta Desc for a Page (other than the homepage)?

I’ve read many comments about how Meta Desc is not a Google search factor, and I completely agree. However setting a Meta Desc does give the author more control (in certain circumstances) over the snippet that appears in the Google search results page (SERP) and therefore can very directly affect how much traffic from Google a blog gets.

    Many thanks.

I’m sorry but we cannot provide accurate answers to any blogger who fails to provide the exact URL starting with http:// for the exact blog they refer to so we can verify where it is hosted. Please do that now.

Thanks for replying Timethief. The blog is http://zsampleproject.wordpress.com/ – still very much in the experimental stage :-)

I looked at both articles before posting, but didn’t find any specifics here on how I could control the meta description on a page on WP.com, or any definitive statement that this cannot be done by the blogger. Seems that Excerpt works for a post and tagline for a homepage but I can’t see anything for a regular page.
