    if one has a free wordpress.com account, is there some option somwehere in order to edit and add a few tags, especially for search engines

    Not for meta tags in the header.

    You could add Technorati or de.lic.ious tags in each post.

    Something you could do though is create more Categories for your site. Instead of calling them “Film News”, you could assign them to something more specific say, for example “Sundance Film Festival News.” That way, you’re providing a link for the search engines to pick up on. It’s greatly rumored by those who deal with SEO that the text within the link is what the search engines pick up on.

    Plus you can’t have too many categories here. There’s no limit that I know of.
