Meta links in side bar

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi all

I have just set up my first blog and have a question about the side bar.

When I view my blog, there is a META heading in the sidebar with a number of links below it.

Is there a way to remove this particular part of my homepage? I don’t really want links to my admin etc available to the general public.

    Many thanks

Links to your admin are NOT available to others.

To remove the Meta widget: Appearance > Widgets > Meta > Edit > Remove > Save Changes.

If you haven’t added any widgets yourself, it’s possible that you’ll see a “you’re using 0 widgets” message” instead of the widgets; in that case first add any widget.

    Thanks for your reply…

Unfortunately still not able to remove the widget.

As you suggested, I hadn’t added any widgets myself and the META widget was in the theme by default.

I tried removing the widget as you described and when that didn’t work, I tried adding the widget even though it was already present on my blog and then tried deleting it. All to no avail I’m afraid. The META widget is still there…

    Any other ideas?

    Many thanks

Add ANY OTHER widget and then click Save Changes. That should get rid of the whole default set and leave you free to add the widgets you really want.

(Note that if you leave your widgets section with no widgets added by you, you get the default again.)

They can click on it, but unless they have your username and password they cannot get into the admin area of your blog.

First of all i would like to thank the Worpress.com team here for providing such a great service to us, for free and indeed for taking time to help us :)
This has helped me alot thanks, searched before I setup a thread about it :D

Just to confirm, this is my blog http://www.tynetime.wordpress.com and I’m currently using the theme Contempt by Vault9, I don’t want any widgets on the side and I don’t even wan’t Meta because it takes from my website, others can see it too when visiting site.

Perhaps by default without any widgets it goes back to justMeta on its own but is there any real way to
get rid of Meta and have no widgets at all? (bare in mind i know using just one other widget will get rid of meta)

    Thanks for your time :)

If I understand you correctly, you want no widgets at all. If that is the case, just put an empty text widget in the sidebar. But be aware that the space for the sidebar will still be there and will cause your blog to look funny.

Best bet if you want no widgets (and don’t know CSS) is to chose a theme without them.

    Yes I want very little
Thanks, after a while of deliberation I’ve decided to go with the simple calender as it suits it’s purpose nicely, again thanks for the help :)

Note: doocey is using Contempt. Contempt has nothing to separate the sidebar from the rest of the main blog area, so it encloses most widgets in rectangles: if you add an empty text widget you end up with a blank rectangle instead of nothing. The RSS widget will do.
