Microblogging within a blog

I am new to WordPress, but comfortable in code. I want a blog where some of the posts are your typical blog posts with a lot of content and others are basically a sentence and a link. I am working with a theme that uses cards on the front page for posts. Is there a way to essentially link that card somewhere else other than to the post page that it is connected to?
I noticed that there are a few micro-blogging WP plug-ins, but the one I was looking at doesn’t treat those entries as posts. I also found a couple of resources online that basically do the same thing, but all I want to do is link the card on the front page to someplace other than the actual post.

Your site workcomplimentsplay.com is not hosted by WordPress.com. It is using the open source WordPress.org software and it is hosted by Bluehost. These support forums are for sites hosted by WordPress.com.
