Microsoft Edge browser – Multiple websites being reported as unsafe

    Hi, I have 15 websites installed on a shared (GoDaddy) server, including 12 live customer sites. This isn’t a local browser issue – it was reported by a customer of my customer, he then had the same issue and contacted me, and I have a the same issue on both PC and iphone

    This afternoon, one of my customers alerted me to a Red Screen security issue on MS Explorer/Edge resulting in the site being blocked, displaying the following information:

    This website has been reported as unsafe
    test.stvmotorcycles.co.uk

    We recommend that you do not continue to this website. It has been reported to Microsoft for containing threats to your computer that might reveal personal or financial information.

    Under “More information” it continued:

    This website has been reported to contain the following threats:

    Malicious software threat: This site contains links to viruses or other software programs that can reveal personal information stored or typed on your computer to malicious persons.

    I looked on cPanel File Manager and noticed that all high level folders for the infected sites had been updated between 09:01 and 09:08 GMT this morning.

    I called GoDaddy tech support and they wanted over $500 to install their Web Protection product, and they couldn’t guarantee a fix. I then found the GOTMLS plugin and ran a full scan. Nothing untoward returned – no files found with any problems and the site I ran it on is still blocked.

    I guess my questions are:

    1. Has anyone seen this issue in the last few days/weeks or so and removed any malware?

    2. Are there any other plugins/programs out there that anyone knows about that may be more successful in removing the malware?

    3. What else could it possibly be?

    Hey there, you’ve posted your question in the support forums for sites hosted by WordPress.com, but it sounds like your above site is using the standalone WP (org) software.

    Standalone WP (org) and WordPressdotcom (where we are) are different entities with separate documentation and support forums; more information about the differences can be found here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    You can find all the support information for sites using the WP (org) software at https://wordpress.org/support/ If you don’t have a username on the ORG forums, you can register one on that page. I also suggest searching the forums there for a similar issue before posting.
