Microsoft Windows Live Writer

  Until this week, I always uploaded word files into Live Editor and posted them to my site without issue. Recently however, I have noticed that every file is loaded with font errors. Specifically, everything with a ” as in “she said” appears a ? as in ?she said? The same happens with … and — or anything that requires a symbol. I am going crazy! Can somebody help me before I do something illegal?

  I think I’ve seen this before. It has to do with the encoding. There’s an option in word to use normal quotes instead of the default quotes when copying.

  It instructs you to turn off “smart quotes” (its how Word knows to angle the quotes inwards towards the inner text). Then try to copy & paste into Live writer.

  I think you can also try “Edit->Paste Special->Remove formatting” but then you lose any bold, italics, etc. and I don’t know if that uses the special double quotes or the normal double quotes.
