Migrate content to new blog in order to free domain

    Hi, I have my blog in a domain with my name. I’ve been using it for a few years. Now I want to migrate the content I created to a new blog so I free this domain to start a new blog from scratch.

    I was thinking (after some research on the subject) to export & import the content in the new site, do a site redirect, wait for google to update its mapping and then delete the content in the original domain and start adding new content. Will this work? Am I missing anything or is there a better workaround?

    Yes you have it correct

    The only thing I would add is set the old site to “Private” until you delete the old content – the site redirect should move everyone from the old site to the new site – but one of these just in case things and that also prevents the old site from looking like a mirror site of the new one (mirror sites are not allowed – but set to private should deal with that)

    Good luck with the move – remember to triple check after the import to make sure everything has been transferred – also make sure you check the box that moves the Media to the new site.

    One note – if the media is not used in the new site I don’t think it will be moved – so if you have media that is not used you will need to move it by hand
