Migrate domain from other web hosting
-
Hi,
I have domain eviakoos.com registered at godaddy and web hosted at smugmug. For some reason, I would like to migrate to wordpress, then I deleted my account at smugmug. Now, since I already have eviakoos.wordpress.com, I would like to change it to become eviakoos.com.
Please advise how to do that.
Thank you

Hi Evia,
If you own the domain eviakoos.com, you can map it to your WordPress.com blog by following this guide: Map an Existing Domain
That will replace your free WordPress.com address with your custom domain. Please let me know if you have any questions!
-
Yes, I did map eviakoos.com to wordpress.
But I want to have is, the address bar show eviakoos.wordpress.com instead of eviakoos.com.
How to do that? -
Hi there,
Your primary domain will be the one that appears in the address bar when you visit your blog. You can change your blog’s primary domain under Store > Domains in your dashboard. We have more about that here: Changing your primary domain
Please let me know if you have any other questions. :)

I set the primary domain to: eviakoos.wordpress.com
Why?
Because at eviakoos.com there is data whatsoever. Just the domain name, I bought from godaddy.
If I set the primary domain to be eviakoos.com, it will be empty. Please tell me how to transfer my domain (eviakoos.com) to wordpress. Not mapping.

Hi there,
Domain mapping is what allows you to use a custom domain name that you purchased at another domain registrar with a WordPress.com site. (WordPress.com can’t accept incoming domain transfers, so you need to keep your domain registered with GoDaddy and mappped here.) The domain name itself is just the address, so mapping the domain to your site means that when you go to the domain you will see your site at that address.
You can learn more about how domain mapping works here: Domains 101: Mapping It Out
All you need to do to make your site appear at the address eviakoos.com is change the primary domain for your site. It may take a little time for that switch to take effect, but that’ll do it! :)

Seems like mapping doesn’t work in my case, if I read in here:
Q: Can I transfer my domain registration to WordPress.com?
A: Unfortunately, we do not accept incoming domain transfers, so it is not possible to transfer a domain you already registered to WordPress.com. Instead, we recommend using the Domain Mapping upgrade to use an already registered domain with your site and maintaining your ownership of that domain through your current registrar.
because:
1. My primary domain is eviakoos.wordpress.com and it will show that URL in address bar. I do not want that.
2. If I change the primary domain to be eviakoos.com, it doesn’t work. The homepage will be empty.Perhaps, I just wait my domain will be expired at godaddy, and then I will registered at wordpress. That’s make more sense.

Hi there,
I’d like to help you out with this.
The site at eviakoos.wordpress.com is where your content is stored. You can go to that address to see your site hosted with us, but if you map your domain eviakoos.com to your WordPress site, you will also be able to use that domain as the address to your site.
In order to make eviakoos.com point to your WordPress.com site, you need to do three things:
1) Purchase domain mapping, which you have done.
2) Go to your domain registrar at GoDaddy and update the name servers to point to WordPress.com, which you have also already done.
3) Go to https://eviakoos.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains and choose eviakoos.com as your primary domain. After that’s all done, you need to allow up to 72 hours for everything to update across the internet, and then when people go to http://eviakoos.com they will see the site you have built at eviakoos.wordpress.com. If a visitor goes to http://eviakoos.wordpress.com they will also see the same site, but the address will change in their browser to eviakoos.com.
You will need to keep your domain at Go Daddy, however, and make sure you renew it annually, or it will stop working.
I hope this helps to explain everything!
