  • Hi there,

You can actually do this yourself using the Jetpack plugin, but I’m happy to help.

I just want to clarify that we can only move ALL your subscribers, not email only, but WordPress.com subscribers as well. Please confirm if it’s okay for me to proceed.

Thank you. Yes, it’d be helpful if you can do it for me. However, before that, I have a few questions:

    1. I dont even know where the existing list of subscribers on my WP.com account are stored. Can you help me where to view this list?

    2. For my new site at http://www.bhavenjani.com (on WP.org) I currently use PopupAlly to create a popup to capture email id for subscribers. And this list is stored in my Mailchimp account. Hence, I’d like to migrate the list of subscribers to my Mailchimp account, is this possible? If yes, how?

    3. In relation to point no. 2 above, does Jetpack do a similar job of providing the ability to create a popup to capture email ids of visitors and store the list? Which of the two is better: Jetpack versus Mailchimp+PopupAlly?

    Thanks a ton in advance.

  • 1. Click on My Site ->Stats ->Insights. You can see your subscribers in the Followers section on that page. Alse under My Site ->People.

    2. It’s not possible to move your subscribers to your MailChimp account, no. When people sign up to follow your site, they subscribe to email notifications for new posts only. We have a strict opt-in only policy regarding this on both WordPress.com and Jetpack.

MailChimp, on the other hand, allows you to send mass emails to subcribers at any time, and for any purpose. Allowing you to export your subscribers and add them to MailChimp without their permission means we’d be breaching our own privacy policy.

That’s not to say you can’t use MailChimp, but it’s a completely separate service, with their own terms and conditions, and it’s your responsibility to make sure you also comply with any laws there might be in your country regarding adding people to mailing lists.

    3. Jetpack does not have a pop-form option, but only a Follow Blog widget, similar to the one we have on WordPress.com.

I hope that answers all your questions. Let me know if I must proceed with the Jetpack migration.

Once again, thank you for your prompt and detailed response.

After checking the number for followers, I realise there is only 1 follower:(, ya, it’d be great if you can migrate it to my new site. Pls go ahead.

I’d also like to migrate all my posts from the current blog to the new one. I did that using the ‘Export’ option, which gave me a .xml file that I imported into my new WP.org site. However, only a couple of random posts and some images got transfered. I have more than 50 posts and lots of comments on my WP.com blog that haven’t migrated to the new site.

    – Is it possible to migrate these posts and comments onto my new site?
    – If yes, can you help me do that?

  • I have moved the subscriber for you.

As for the import to the .org site, the file exported from WordPress.com does contail all the content on your site, but if posts with the same title/permalinks already exist on the target site, even if they’re in the Trash folder, those posts won’t import again.

You can try removing all posts that aren’t unique to the .org site, and delete them from trash as well, and then try importing again.

More than that I’m not able to help as I don’t have access to your self-hosted site’s dashboard, but if you ask in the self-hosted forums I’m sure there will be users who’ve encountered this issue before and will be able to help you. You can find those forums here:
