Migrate feedburner email list from self-hosted site

    Hello,

I am migrating my self-hosted blog to WordPress.com. The migration is pretty much done, but I need to transfer my subscriber list over to the new site so they can receive my future blog posts. How do I do this? My site uses Feedburner for subscribers.

I plan to transfer the domain (recoveringshopaholic.com) to the new site as well. Should I do that first and will the feed (http://recoveringshopaholic.com/feed) automatically work? I’m not sure about any of this, but I don’t want to mess it up, as I have over 1000 subscribers.

thank you for any advice you can provide,

    Debbie

Hi there, I don’t believe it’s possible to directly import your Feedburner subscribers to your WordPressdotcom site. I’ve tagged this for Staff input.

About transferring the domain, WordPressdotcom does not accept incoming domain transfers, so you would need to maintain your domain with your current registrar or transfer it to a different registrar if you can’t keep it with the current one.

Once you have that set up, you will need to purchase one of the upgrade plans in order to use the domain credit to map your custom domain to your WordPressdotcom site. You can learn more about our upgrade plans here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/ and all about domain mapping here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

Thank you for your reply, but the link you sent in your last message refers to moving TO self-hosted FROM WordPress.com, but I am doing the opposite (which I realize doesn’t happen very often but I’m trying to save money).

I have upgraded the site to the Personal plan and used the free domain mapping that is included with the plan. I got the instructions on how to do the mapping (my domain is with GoDaddy and I am fine with keeping it there), but I haven’t done it yet.

I hope there is a way to migrate my subscribers, as that’s a pretty important part of the whole process. I’m not sure how much I will continue to update this blog, but I do want to post periodically with updates and to announce the NEW blog that I plan to start soon. I would hate to lose all of those subscribers with this move.

Please reply as soon as you can. I am hoping to get this taken care of today. Thank you.

My apologies about the incorrect link. This is the correct one:

    https://transferto.wordpress.com

Concerning your feedburner subscribers we will need to wait for staff or another forum volunteer.

If you’ve upgraded your plan you are also eligible for direct staff assistance via the contact form in your dashboard.

  • @debbieroes if I understand Feedburner correctly, those folks are subscribed to an existing url, such as yourgroovydomain.com/feed

Are you going to use your existing domain here?

Yes, I’m going to use my existing domain, recoveringshopaholic.com, on my new site. Once the domain mapping is in place, will the feed work? I’m mostly concerned with my existing subscriber list and that they will still receive any posts I publish.

  • If the feed address is the same, it should work the same.
